hi im looking to get a new imac 24" mainly to play games on and browse etc but im wondering if they are due to release a new line up at all soon?

can anyone tell me if im making a good choice on the imac for games and if its a good time. by the way i really dont want a pc so please dont just suggest that as an alternative.

thanks

1) Why are you getting a Mac to play games on?

2) The iMac is a compromised computer, it is not a gaming PC. It s really, desperately silly to get an iMac when you want to play games.

3) Yes, it is reaching its end of life and is due a refresh.

it wont be exclusively gaming but i dont want a pc so what can i do? alternatives??
If you want to play games well, don't get an iMac. Get a Mac Pro. If you can't afford that, then I don't know why you don't want a PC.

With the iMac, you pay over the top for sub-standard hardware that you can't upgrade yourself.

The iMac is basically laptop components in a desktop form. When they release the new iMac with the GeForce 9600M GT graphics card, it should run most games quite well. But guaranteed you'll be using Windows bootcamp on your iMac to play games, as there aren't many games available for apple.

So why not just get a PC?

Why not buy an imac with the less powerful video chip and an xbox for gaming?

Because some people prefer PC games.

Judging from benchmarks, the iMac with the 8800 is quite capable, but when all said and done it too will probably start feeling slow quite quickly.
