I know there is never a good time to upgrade / replace your system, however there seems quite a bit on the horizon for the comming year.

My current system is in my sig, and I'm wondering if I can tweak it to last me a while longer, or should I just take the plunge and get myself a new top end system. (thinking of spending silly money :D).

Primarily my system is used for games.

no real limit on budget tbh (although cost/power ratio might get the better of me as its hard to justify getting top spec), just trying to decide on whether its worth replacing now, or perform a smallish upgrade now, and wait a few months.

Could be tempted to go for the built
"Ultima Extreme SLi 8800 GTX" Intel Core 2 Quadro QX6700 2.66GHz Quad Core SILENT DDR2 System - XP Professional

With a dell 2407 (since I'm on a 17" atm).

Although I'd imagine I could slim that down a lot and still have comparible performance.

If I had my sensible head on it would be more likely the
"Ultima OC 8800GTX" Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 2.40GHz @ X6800+ 3.00GHz Dual Core SILENT DDR2 System - XP Home :)

Thanks for the reply.

My current card is AGP, although my mobo will support a PCI-E also.

Would PCI-E give me any better peformance, since I could get either AGP/PCI-E cards (512MB) for about £150.

Hmmm I'm having trouble resisting a new setup ;)

Currently thinking on the following, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM £177.99 (£209.14)
2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £113.98 (£133.92)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK) £84.99 (£99.86)
Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case £63.99 (£75.19)
EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £163.99 (£192.69)
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler £22.99 (£27.01)
2 x BFG GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £659.98 (£775.48)
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) £169.99 (£199.74)

Sub Total : £1,457.90
Shipping : £14.95
Vat : £257.75
Total : £1,730.60

Plus the Dell 2407

:D

Hopefully the 620 PSU would be enough for SLI.

Not sure on the memory, I notice you can get special SLI memory these days, but not sure its worth it.
