Good time to upgrade?

Hi all,

Been thinking whether it's time to upgrade my machine as I have had it for quite a while and I have started to have run games at lower settings.

I'm looking forward to games like GTA5/Assasins Creed and the next Witcher and would love to run them with all the bells and whistles on at 1080p.

Currently I am running:

i7 920 (not overclocked)
ASUS P6T
1TB HDD
6GB (can't remember what spec)
MSI HD 7850 Power Edition Twin Froze IV OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics.
PSU is Antec and I think 550w

I have a budget of around £650-£750 and like the idea of downsizing the case to something like a BitFenix Prodigy, I could recycle my Antec 300 case to save cash if needed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Al

I had a similar spec - happy with what I did:

- Fresh windows install on SSD (sata2 ssd is still magical ssd)
- GPU upgrade (I suggest 770)
- I added more ram, but only because I could get it cheap eol
- I upgraded my PSU too - old one wasn't happy powering the 780
- You have a perfect system for overclocking, link in my sig if you want to copy my modest overclock

Yes, as good a time to upgrade as ever for your system!

i7 920 (not overclocked) buy yourself a big arse CPU cooler & overclock to make the most of your chip. 4.0GHz is achievable even on early release C0 stepping
ASUS P6T
1TB HDD if not already, get yourself a nice SSD for your OS & favourite games, the difference is amazing
6GB (can't remember what spec) this is still enough these days games are only using just over 5GB (Watch Dogs for example)
MSI HD 7850 Power Edition Twin Froze IV OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics. probably the most important component for games, plenty of options available, VRAM looks to getting more sort after
PSU is Antec and I think 550w this is fine

Keep current CPU, find a Rampage III Gene if you can so it'll fit into a Prodigy M.

Included PSU as I'm not sure the 550w will cope with a 290 + i7 920 OC
