Hi all,

Wasn't sure where to post this so I apologise in advance if it's in the wrong place.

I'm looking to build a water-cooled system around December / Jan 09 and my budget will be around £2700. I haven’t got many tools though so I thought it would be a good idea to build up a good selection of 'quality' tools prior to my build.

Can anyone recommend a decent screwdriver set (magnetic tip) and other tools you feel will benefit me greatly?

Thanks in advance,

RoEy

I've been told that magnetic tipped screwdrivers can kill your hardware, may not be true but it sounds it.

Yeah me too. But I've been using them for years and I've never had any problems. I just want a new set now.

a few screwdrivers flat/star, needle nose pliers, something tweezer like for small hdd drive/mobo jumpers, anti-static band (if your a little careful you dont need this), cable ties/antistatic bags always come in handy , wire cutter (can use for pipes too), torch (maybe even a head mounted one if you're working solo)

btw avoid magnetic screwdrivers, you could potentially mess up chips and circuits (although i do admit i've used a magnetic screwdriver in several instances but you've just gotta be really careful where the head touches/goes)

Anti statick bags so i wasnt crazy to keep them when i ordered all of my stuff,

girl was like you are just hoarding rubbish but no i kept them thank god now got spares in them

Used a magnet screwdriver for years with no issues, yet!
Same here
I find I cant do without a magnetic screw driver, they are a valuable piece of kit for getting screws in awkward places.
I think some where down the Chinese whispers line its become distorted.
You can kill components with a screw driver with ESD. If you are not earthed and become charged, the screwdriver will conduct the ESD.

so will any conductive metal, magnetized or not.

without magnetic screwdriver, it would have become absolutely impossible for me to build my computer.. unless i could shrink myself to 3 inches tall and go inside my pc case

£2700 budget !

I think you need to read my post again. I too was saying that I couldnt live with out one

I’ve built quite a few PCs now and for the majority of the time all you need is a sharp knife to remove all the tones of packaging and screwdriver (definitely need a magnetic one). Unless you want to modify the case then a Dremel is popular. A small pair of wire snips are handy for cutting zip tags etc and a 3lb sledge hammer for when it all goes wrong;).

There are a number of competitors (so I can not name) that do sets designed for PC engineers that have a few screw drivers, pliers, snips bits and bobs all in a neat case.
