I am currently considering getting into trackdays with a mechanically minded friend of mine. I have quite fancied the idea for a while, but the Donington VXR day has finally convinced me to seriously consider it.

I am currently considering a Honda Civic 1.6 ESI (1994) with 70k on the clock. Would this be a decent car to start with, bearing in mind I (currently) have no intention of spending thousands on kitting it out. The car in question is currently my uncles, and has said I can have it for £200...

Secondly, which would be view as the best route to go:

SORN the car, and buy an A-Frame to take it to/from the track.

Tax/MOT the car but don't insure it, using dayinsure (£12.60 a day) to get it to/from places. This also has the benefit of being able to drive it on the road from time to time.

Tax/MOT and insure the car. Probably unlikely as insurance is looking to be around £400.

You can't tax it without insurance.

Good point! Do you need to have insurance just to get it Taxed, or does it have to be insured whilst it is taxed. E.g. could I just take out insurance, tax the car, then cancel?
