Morning all,

I’m looking for a recommendation for a small track day my wife and I could do.

I’m not thinking something where you cruise around in a Lambo. More like a session where you take your own car, though I’d not use mine, or even better, something more like racing with an instructor in the car teaching you the ropes.

We live near Guildford, so ideally somewhere not too far north.

Thanks!

Try an MSVT novice day.
I started with one and it’s a great way to ease yourself into track days.
It does however get very addictive, and expensive.

We did an OcUK event there 15(?) years ago and it was epic.
Solid instructors, a wide range of cars and you get a go in an F3000 single-seater at the end. Not cheap but fantastic experience.

They have different programmes so could be worth a look.

Pretty sure I went to the same one and I was blasting down the country roads to this event and I wasn’t sure where I was going and ended up following you and we both went the wrong way. I might be mistaken, the guy I was following was driving a BMW coupe of some sort IIRC.

I'm not far from it. Good routes around there, but the roads are of course in a terrible state now. Also speed limits being cut and average speed cameras popping up everywhere :/

That's the one. My sense of direction is not the best :D

I've done mercedes Benz world at a corporate do. That was fun. Got to drive the AMG round the track with an instructor, do the 4x4, a bit of drifting and driving through water to play with stopping distances. Not your typical track day.

Probably too far for OP but I did 1 at Anglesey circuit in my old car a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth in 2000 which I sold for 3K in 2001, it's up for sale on Ebay now for 40K, great fun, thoroughly recommended, just make sure your car is in good order because it'll get hammered like nothing you can do on public roads.

It does get very addictive quickly, i live pretty close to Anglesey circuit so i used to go there a lot. They used to have a club you could join which did evening sessions from 6-8pm for £30 but that was 10 years ago now so not sure if they do that.

Worth looking at local circuits to see if they do similar?

I found full days were too much for me, too long for me and i got tired and it was very very hard on the car too, plus you went though so much petrol it made the day very expensive.

If your car is in good order no reason not to do a few laps in it, just be aware it'll eat tyres and brake pads, i've gone through a brand new set of brake pads in 1x 2 hour track evening before trying to drive it hard.
