Good upgrade from a GTX 670

Well it's probably that sort of time again for me. Could do with a GPU upgrade. Had a GTX 670 since 2012 which I originally got for BF3.

Has served me very well but fancy some snappier frame rates in Arma 3 (which is pretty much all I play). My specs are in my sig below. Happy with my CPU and ram. Just want to beef up with GPU.

Any suggestions? Ideally don't want to spend more than about £300 but possibly could go over.

2nd hand 980ti or wait for Vega in my opinion, if you wanted something new and right now then there's some really good RX480 deals if you look around.

Nice one. Forgot to mention, I'd rather stick to Nvidia. Guessing can't go wrong with a 980ti for my needs.

Why stick with Nvidia?

With dx12 games looming an 8gb rx480 is a better option than a 980ti. Or a used 390x.

AMD has improved the 480 performance a lot since it was released.

ah ok. No reason really. Just like the software you get for Nvidia experience (auto updating drivers etc). Guess AMD has something similar.

Having read more into it, Arma 3 is a rather CPU intensive game. I might not even seen a massive improvement if I upgraded right now.

You'd still see an improvement for sure. If I had a 670 and was upgrading now, a 2nd hand 980ti would be where I'd go. RX 480 is a great option, but only if you can grab one at sub £200.

To be honest anything is an upgrade from that card even a gtx 970. I had a 660TI which i believe is about the same performance as 670. From that I jumped to a gtx 970 and that was a pretty big jump. If you want to stay with NVidia you can probably score a cheap 970.

At this point in time I would not buy a 980TI, if you have that kind of money might as well stretch the budget a bit, wait for an offer and get a 1070.

1070's are £300+ though? I can't even see the price dropping when the 1080ti is released. Even if Vega is a match for 1080 at the top end I can't see NVidia worrying that much in all honesty. There are millions who will always look at Green Team, even if it was inferior at the same price point.

they are indeed but then how much is a second hand 980TI?

I could be wrong but I don't see them selling for less than £250, in which case might as well try and get a 1070 with in a 1 day deal, maybe with a game included. The warranty is important as well. I really don't think a second hand 980TI is worth it unless it's a really good deal.

Its not ur GPU its the servers u play on is probably why ur fps isn't too good. I have a 670 and play a3 fine, u really don't have to have all GPU settings maxed to have the best visuals. Optimise ur settings and find some well scripted servers and u should be able to play with great gfx and be about 50-60fps.

Personally would say 980Ti for £300. Specially when you can pick up the Xtreme Ti for just under. Raise power limiter to 130% and voltage up and your away !
Think the Strix and them Extreme AMP follow closely behind

Will say, changed the stock paste when I sold my 980ti strix, buyer had temps of 71c @ 1570hz over his on of 1510hz at 80c. So well worth an mot on second hand card
