Your only option is a 980 ti basically, or up your budget for a new 1070.

An 290 should be able to max it now at 60fps.

If your getting a new monitor in a few months are you getting freesync or gsync.

Your 290 should be eating Bf1 at 1080p. I am averaging around the 90's at 1200p on mine using the Dx12 Ultra preset.

Freesync is cheaper than gsync, but if you get one of them, your locked to amd(freesync) or nvidia(gsync)

I dont know much about them.

Explain the crash i.e. did the game just crash or did the PC lock up forcing you to reboot.

Try dx11, disable afterburner use inbuild fps from console.
