Guys,
putting together a good, solid system for somebody and have gone for the following....their old system recently bottled it :D ..

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3
Core2Duo E6600 or E6700
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency
ATI X1900XT 256 or ATI X1900GT 256 or NVidia 7900GS or 7950GT 512
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB

No interest in dual-GPU so it appears the DS3 would be a good board to get (I know the 965 have the XFire support now), a lot of folks on here seem to happy with it. I assume a lot of people on here would have gone with the Geil memory when the prices were low, so I'm just hoping to clarify the build to see if anyone has any other suggestions or recommendations.

Thanks guys..

True,
but cost may come into........I'm using a P5W myself and, so far, I'm relatively happy with it (apart from its Hard Drive issues!)..
A 965 board would be cheaper, and he could put more cash towards a graphics card. He probably won't be too pushed into overclocking to much although you never know down the line, but even then it'll be minimal.
