I've recently upgrade my monitor and it seems that my 6800GT (AGP) can no longer cope with it. I'm thinking about upgrade but it'd mean a swap to PCIe. The gfx card alone would be a fair amount of money so I was wondering what would be classed as a decent CPU, which wouldn't hold back a top gfx card, that isn't breaking the bank.
Maybe the Athlon 64 3700 SD ? ..I can spend more if it really is justified.

(If you're in the mood for it you're welcome to specify a mobo too)

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response.

I'm coming from a 3.2Ghz P4 so the clock speeds you quoted doesn't mean too much to me, but I'll look into it ;)

So the 3700 SD is weapon of choice ? ...

I would rather have the AMD 3700 SD Over the Pentium 3.2 Any day of the week , month , year :D

yeah I realise that, I'm just saying that Athlon clock speeds don't mean much to me.
Thanks for your help, looks like I'll go for the CPU you've recommended.

ps. If anyone knows anything about RAM then I've a Q in the RAM section that I'd really appreciate answering. I'm wondering whether my current RAM could be used in my new setup without holding it back in anyway.

...thanks again

I noticed that. I'll have to consider what CPU is best for what task etc ...and compare some benchmarks etc
