My mum bought a new wireless mouse for her PC today. Being avid gamers none of the family has owned a wireless mouse before. We got the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. We're used to mice like the Intellimouse Optical which is a really straight forward mouse, nicely designed and works flawlessly.
I'm shocked at how bad the wireless mouse is, and it's going back for sure. Firstly it's heavy, second it doesn't slide well, thirdly watching the pointer on the screen it seems surprisingly jerky and I can detect a touch of lag, fourthly the geometry seems off - you move the mouse horizontal and it moves along but also slightly up on the screen, and the movement can sometimes seem non linear, like it accelerates (something the Intellimouse Optical does not do). The accuracy doesn't even seem any good even though it's supposedly a higher DPI than the Intellimouse Optical.
So, inevitable questions - are all wireless mice this bad, and are they all this heavy? Is it worth trying another one, maybe a Logitech? Would a bluetooth one be better maybe - this one we've bought has a silly receive station you have to put on your desk, rather than just the usb dongle you get with the bluetooth ones.
Maybe lazer mice don't work well on wooden desks - we're using it without a mouse mat, but the other mice we've used slide about just fine on that desk, and the optical mice we've used seem very accurate on it.
Please tell me there's some better wireless mice out there
