Hi All,

I'm trying to find a good laptop to work and I'm getting a bit frustrated as I cannot find a place where I can search a laptop given some features... and I know that there are quite a few developers/sysadmins reading these forums :).

I'm looking for a core i7 with quad core CPU, 16gb of RAM, and a 15" scree with any screen resolution (ideally 1080, as my eyes are not that good anymore). It can also have a discrete graphics cards (as I do like playing games now and then). The reason I want that CPU+memory is because I run VMs for my development, so I want to have 8GB to run VMs, and 8GB for the OS+development environment.
I don't care about the storage, as I can replace it if necessary.

I would appreciate if anyone can recommend a laptop that matches the above.

So far I've checked the DELL range (but both the XPS and 7000 range have mixed reviews) and Lenovo Y50 range.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot Arjibear!

I forgot to mention that it should also be on the light side :). the GS60 looks amazing (and a bit on the expensive side) and the GT70 is on the heavy side :). I'll investigate a bit more the different MSI laptops!

Again, thanks a lot!

Thanks Atom!

That one looks quite good :). As you mentioned, the discrete graphics card is a nice to have rather than a must, and I wouldn't be playing the latest AAA titles on it anyway.

I find it a bit strange that in order to get a laptop with a good hardware I need to get a "gaming" laptop ;)

Cheers,
Augusto
