Hi guys

I am getting a 8800 (gts or gtx, cant decide yet)soon and i want to overclock my x2 4400 to 5200+ speeds (i.e. 2.6ghz) so as to get the most out of the new card. I simply can't afford a whole new motherboard and a core 2 duo on top of the new card :(. Not to keen on a reformat either!

I'm guessing that the stock cooler won't be up for it so i was wondering if anyone knows of a really good cooler for the 4400+. Preferably one that is easy to fit and doesnt involve taking the motherboard out.

Cheers

Jt

if its the heatpipe cooler you may get away with it for a .4ghz increase. They are fantastic coolers considering theyre oem coolers

How do i tell if its the heatpipe cooler? It does have a few copper pipes leading in and out of a black fan box.

i have an SI-120 on my cpu (since its basically a x2 4400+) and it doesnt seem to be doing much for me temp wise even with a strong fan, concave ihs or just poor cooler.

a lot of concave ihs's lately :o

thats the heatpipe cooler. Try it first before buying a new cooler (any of which suggested above should do the job nicely) it might save you some money till later on, it was designed to take the 4800+ with ease so I would have thought it could take the overclock youre talking about.

personally if it goes over 60 degrees C then I would start to little concerned although generally if its stable then it should be ok.

I'm using Scythe Ninja (actually two, have another in my HTPC) It requires you to take motherboard out of the case, if it doesn't have a backplate. Mine doesn't go over 50 even when overclocked and under 100%x2 load.
