Goodbye Astraweb, Hello Supernews

Hmm, might consider downgrading from unlimited DSL (£7 a month) to the 180GB package, however my brother shares my Astraweb account in the house, however I should be ok, I use it more than he does.

Then again I might not bother, its only £59 saving per year.

I've been using Astraweb with SABnzbd for 9 months now and I've just recently gone onto their yearly unlimited plan ($96) and haven't had any problems at all.

I've been using Sky up until the middle of last month but have just switched to the 10Mb Virgin package and it's still running flawlessly:

Got it setup to automatically reduce download speeds during the traffic shaping period in the morning between 10 and 3 and to pause completely between 4 and 9.

I can access, control and add NZB's to it from any browser or using the NZB Air app on my android which allows direct searching of NZBMatrix, NZBIndex and NewzBin and adding to the queue on the move.

I absolutely <3 it. :)

What theme is that? I've been using the Smpl ajax theme for years now, I wouldn't mind something a bit prettier if it still has the ajax functionality.

It's just a colour mod of the Plush theme:

You need to backup the old image files and replace them with the ones from the zip in the link above. It functions in exactly the same way I just wasn't keen on the original yellow ><

Waaaaait!

There's an app for Android for it?

SOLD!

There are quite a few acutally. They're all 3rd party as far as I'm aware and have varying degrees of functionality. I tried a couple but settled on NZBAir - it's paid for but it's well worth the £3 for the fact it means you can search and add stuff to the queue all in the one app.

SABnzbd also has the ability to activate a secondary skin with one of the built in ones being specifically for mobiles and smaller resolution devices.

This is a screenshot from the PC but it scales down properly for mobile screens.

The skin is limited compared to the full U.I but allows you to view download speed, time remaining, queue, history, pause functionality and the ability to add NZB's via URL.

/edit

Just realised the thread has now been massively derailed :p

Might as well post in here seen as I necro'd it by mistake!

I've actually recently switched to Superweb from Astraweb as it's top speed was erratic on my new Virgin 50mb connection. Retention is not as good (~850 days to ~950) but speed is solid and completion seems a little better too.

Another SAB user here. Use it's mobile interface on my HTC Desire. Tried some of the apps but most don't offer anything over the web page :)

Well, impressed with SAB :D I notice now that when I log into NZBMatrix that every article has a Send To SABnzb icon next to the download/queue/bookmark icons too :D

Edit*

Aha, this is due to the NZBStatus extension for Firefox, I installed it using the APIkey and it just polls everything to Sab, when not at home I guess I will have to bookmark so the nzbd can pick it up. At least this way my process when at home is fairly speedy with only a single click :p

Ah, I used to have a similar Firefox addon for Newzbin. I hadn't thought to look for one for NZBMatrix.

Glad you're getting on with SAB, now you just need to get Sickbeard running if you're a "TVer" :P

I am but I always liked to manually sort my shows out after they have downloaded and extracted to the folder :p

Also got NZBAir for Android, was a bit of a faff to get the API URL sorted for SAB but after figuring out I had to put/api after the URL when connecting remotely (I use DynDNS) and then adding a port forward for 8080 everything is working fine. Surprisingly quick in response as well. I have enabled the secondary UI in SAB so I can still access that via my phone's browser should I just want to check up on the progress without having to load up NZBAir.

Good stuff!

Really? For me there is nothing better (apply some poetic licence here) than simply going to the TV, switching to HDMI2 and seeing my new shows on the screen with absolutely no input from myself :)

Sickbeard can even do Growl, XBMC (/Boxee/Plex) and Twitter notifications, too :)

Ah I see! I have 2 friends who do something similar via MediaPortal but I've always preferred renaming and organising my media manually for both music, TV and movies.

I think I follow your train of thought, as I used to do the same.

My new method works for two reasons;

1. SAB automatically organises TVs into a categorised file structure (example: /mnt/files/Media/TV/SomeTVShow/S03E06.mkv).
2. I use library mode on my media centre (Mixture of Boxee on Revo and XBMC on ATV2) which hides all of that from me anyway, so I just get tv shows, and under each tv show I get series number, episode number and episode name.

Apologies - I knew there was a vital piece of information I was missing. I spent an age working out the /api bit too :(

No probs :D It took a while but I sat bac and had a good old mind wag and it fell into place :p

Mike, yeah ideally I'd have it like that too but these days I just DL an episode and delete it after watching so it's a bit of a faff having to sift through folders when it could just extract to one folder only and I just play off there an delete once watched :D

Archived shows are important ones already sorted :p
