I'm heading down to Southampton tonight with a friend in preparation for our trip to Goodwood tomorrow.

Not been before but our pretty awesome wives/kids got us tickets (grandstand) for Father's Day.

Just wondered if anyone had any tips on anything at all?

We aim to get in as soon as the gates open at 7, are the queues huge? Best places stand for hill climb, things to avoid etc etc.

A few things from last visit -

a. It's HUGE and while you can just about "see" everything in one day you'll have no time to actually stop and soak it all in. So plan ahead for the dozen or so things you actually want to see and spent time at.

b. It really busy so it can be difficult actually getting close to some of the cars just due to the insane amount of people there.

c. The Manufacturers stands normally have seating so you can watch the hill climb, you just need to show them your key fob to gain access.

d. Food/Drink is expensive and has pretty big queues so plan ahead.

I went a few years ago and I found that the crowd was "strange". There was about 25% who were clearly there for the older cars and the history, there was another 25% who were there for the new cars on the manufactueres stands and the remaining 50% were only there because it was an "event" to go to and post about on FB/Insta etc and clearly didn't care about any of the car stuff other than getting selfies in the latest supercars. The amount of idiotic drivel spewing for that last 50% actually started to ruin the day for me as you just can't get away from the "TOWIE wannabe" generation and their very loud "I bet I'm more thickerer than you" attitude.

queues are always big on the weekends.. says it will rain over here today, so some wellies maybe and awd car for the car park.. it was already muddy on thursday when i went..
make sure you walk around and find all those gems further up the hill climb. jag skid pan, Porsche stand, and the bowler stand.. they tear around a dirt track with you in it! always fun to watch and prob more fun to be a passenger which you can be.
oh and the supercar paddock and f1 paddock.. getting close and personal to all of them.. oh and also close to the supercar paddock you got a small area where you can see new cars which have just coming out or coming out..
and just enjoy, far too much to put on here

oh you can see goodwill live on youtube as well.. shows you some of what is around

I went 12 years ago and loved it. One thing I remember is the amount of people from the US there.

This was the feature stand : Rolls Royce - 100th anniversary, indicating the brand's supremacy in record breaking on land, sea and air :)
