Google Android or Chrome event 24th July

Chromecast is brilliant!!
So simple and easy. Now ANYONE can get content on their TV's without complex setups which even a lamen can do!

I can really see myself buying one for each of the TV's in my house. Its perfect and now we all in the household can see content, each others content, shared content etc in one place- the home!

Hooking up everyone's phones to Chromecast just simplifies everything!
Now when my friends, family etc come round they dont need to stare at my phone screen- its there on my 50" with a press of a button!

I really see this product as having a lot of potential and the price is a steal!
I really hope this takes off massively so we get 3rd party support.

Indeed it really looks like a great piece of kit

Currently trying to find out if one shipped to me from the US will work on our soil (I have family in the US). I cannot see a reason why it wouldn't.

Yup!

All very well a high res. but if the screen is washed out looking and/or has poor viewing angles, poor brightness etc. then it is a pretty crap display in my eyes.

Look forward to the reviews.

Nexus 7 can now show 30% wider range of colour (30 percent wider gamut)

I think the top and bottom bezel are far too big though - they do nothing to help the look of the tab.

I'm not sure its that great. I was looking for it to be able to mirror my phone i.e. sitting in a hotel, plug it in and play a movie/ tv episode that I have stored on my phone and have taken with me for that purpose.

I don't think this dongle can do that?

At the moment I just plug my phone into the tv HDMI input.

The real feature of it is the social aspect. If you have some friends over, anyone with an iphone or android phone can queue up their content on your TV and what's more it's incredibly simple to do.

In your situation it isn't the product that will full your need but I never watch any movies and TV on my phone. Those things I just stream from my PC to the ps3 or the htpc.

This will be useful for YouTube, Google Music, viewing pictures, photos etc.
For the price it does a brilliant job!

Nice!

Yeah the bezel is a bit too big for my liking too, not as bothered about it with a tablet compared to phones though, it is still annoying to see anyway as they could have either reduced the dimensions considerably or had a bigger screen :(

Unbelievable the price of this, mighty tempted! Just have to wait and see what the moto x etc. is like and possibly the nexus 5......

Are you going to get one kona?

Google Play might even be better, like the N4. Then again last years N7 was the same price pretty much everywhere.

Yeah, when it comes to the tablet, I don't think prices will be much, if any different, in fact........... iirc was currys or somewhere not selling the 16GB nexus 7 for the same price as the 8GB nexus 7 on google play at the time of launch?

Please let us know if this can be done! Means I can try and get a friend or two help me ship it over from the US. Rather than wait in the UK for one and no doubt it will be more pricey than $35!!

This is a good start of hopefully more things to come (developer apps).
Sure it's cool to show YT and chrome on the TV but when am I realistically going to use that?
When you can send local/networked media to the TV via this, then it will be rocking!
I'll still give it a punt for $35 though, guess I can order one today :)

So after you've plugged in the Chromecast dongle into an available HDMI port on your TV and also connected it to USB for power:

Looks like these have sold out in the US :)
I have a feeling these will be sold out when they come back in too.

No doubt it will sell out in the UK too when its released!

Good news

From CNET: "Within an hour of its unveiling, initial orders of Chromecast in Google's on-line store were gone, listed instead as "coming soon." Amazon lists Chromecast as back ordered up to a month, and Google's ship time is is next month."

As you say, I am sure we will see a similar reaction when it is released 'over here'!

Really interested in the Chromecast, if and when it arrives over here! I quite often find myself wanting to watch a film/steam/youtube/etc in bed, but would rather not have to have the whole computer on to play it through, just to put in on my TV. Would be brilliant to just send it from my phone with no fuss.

Most are going for about $60-90 through companies that have them in stock now :(

The only real annoying part of this, they never show the USb powering it. In the commercial it is simply inserted into the HDMI, looking like it is 100% wireless.
