Google Android or Chrome event 24th July

An interesting development, people who own the Chromecast are reporting local content can be streamed by putting the local content address path into a Chrome tab's address bar and then activating the cast tab option to put it on your TV.

If the Chromecast detects video content it is compatible with at the file location it will begin to play it. Pretty interesting and unexpected development.

AVI, MP3 and MP4 files all work, however MKV files do not work in Chrome so fail to start.

That's very interesting, I always wondered why the casting from Chrome was in beta. I had a feeling because it was actually locally streaming the tab, and seeing a local address works, then this may support it.

Hopefully there will be other software apart from Chrome that can chromecast, would make Chromecast even more tempting for me as I have loads of BD/DVDs stored on my PC.

This would appear to be a similar, though possibly cheaper device than the HTC Media Link HD which is effectively a Wireless HDMI Adapter which will work nicely with an HTC One, for example

Im an android dev so give me an idea and i may implement it :)

The things I'd like to see updated to work with this:

- Standard video player: If the device can become an "all in one" option for streaming content from the phone to the TV, awesome!

- TwitchTV App - Streaming something from twitch to the phone, and then streaming it onto the TV screen.

Edit - Obviously these are things that would need to be looked at/developed by the respective owners of each app, but those are the sort of things I'd like to see.

On the Twitch thing there's no reason why you can't just open a Twitch stream in a Chrome tab and then press the cast button to project it onto the TV.

Can you do that from Chrome on the phone though? I thought that the sending of chrome tabs to the dongle was only from a PC?

It's great for the masses but something like this has been available in China for at least a year and most of us don't need it because all the content available is the same as a PS3 or PC connected to out TV's
