Google Cast quality decrease when streaming

Hi all

I’ve had some Harman Kardon citation stuff for a while. It uses Google Cast as the streaming platform, and it has been great.


However, recently, it seems as though the quality has dropped massively on Spotify. To the point where I get significantly better quality over Bluetooth.


To describe the sound, it’s as though the bitrate has decreased from 320 to 64 kbps



I’ve never previously had this problem with the devices.



Has anyone found anything similar?

Would be odd. Chromecast Audio supports up to 96khz/24bit high res and on most 3rd party devices like HK Citation (I have the 500) it supports up to 48khz/24 bit high res.

Never had anything like this. Is it connected well to the wifi? Do you have an Apple device to try Airplay, see if you have the same issue?

It sounded like AirPlay exhibited the same problem earlier.


I’ll do some more thorough testing tomorrow to understand what does/doesn’t work etc and report back

It now won’t stream at all. In addition, I’m not able to control other smart devices.


It’s similar to the problem I had with the BT router before, but I wonder if it’s due to iOS this time.

Very odd - seems like a connectivity issue

Just not sure which device is the culprit at the moment - iPhone or Smart Hub


Given I’ve had similar issues in the past with the Smart Hub (as have many others - it was a known issue) I’m inclined to believe that’s the problem


However, the iPhone has been a bit flakey with WiFi in general, so we’ll see if iOS 15.4 sorts it

So after lots of testing, I’ve concluded it’s the iPhone.

Everything works as expected with other devices
