Most of my bookmarks have vanished and I need them back, any idea how to restore them? Tried reinstalling Chrome but no luck.

Have they disappeared for anyone else?

They have disappeared on my laptop too. Bookmarks were fine this morning but quite a few are missing now and I have no idea how to get them back.

Did a quick google and it's happened to people in the past but can't find a solution..

Maybe I just need to wait and they might come back. :(

I arranged all my bookmarks on my laptop, tried to sync on my PC and it wouldn't work, went back onto my laptop later in the night and they'd all be screwed around, completely not how I arranged them and quite a few had disappeared, so it was ta-ra to Chrome and hello to Firefox for me.

Local Bookmarks are saved here : C:\Users\YOURFACE\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

You could replace the 'bookmarks' file with bookmarks.bak.
You could back up that entire folder, nuke Chrome, reboot, re-install and hope Chrome sync fixes it. You have Chrome Sync enabled right?
You could install Firefox 12 and try importing your Chrome Bookmarks into that and see what happens.

Tried all 3 steps but none of the missing bookmarks restored. Boo.

Would a system restore work? or would it be synced all wrong on their servers? I have no idea how it all works. :(

I suspect your desktop got screwed somehow and you synced up the empty list to your other devices. You could check the .bak file on your laptop I guess.

System Restore might work, yes. Pull your internet cable, do the restore and grab the bookmarks file. You could also open Chrome's Bookmark manager while offline, export your bookmarks to html then undo the restore, connect back to the net and import the html.

Look at the properties for the 'bookmarks' file first though. The Previous Versions tab might save you doing a full restore.

Tried system restore earlier with no internet and still no luck. Still the same bookmarks missing. No idea how it all fudged up!

Will just learn to back up from time to time. :(

It won't help you now, but if you use Xmarks, it backs them up to their server, so you can restore them back to a prior point. Plus you can sync them across different browsers and devices.
