Google Drive vs. others...

I'm thinking of paying for a 'Google Drive' account, mainly as back-up for my 'precious' documents, photo's etc.

I am prepared to pay a monthly subscription.

The google prices for 25GB and 100GB seem reasonable.

I'll need 25GB for my main docs/photo's etc. But if I add my music files I'll need the 100GB.

Am I missing anything here? Are there better services out there?

Why not use the Google Play service to upload your music? You can upload 20,000 tracks to that and then use the 25GB normal Google Drive for your docs?

Once your tunes are on Play, you can play them via a web browser or on a smartphone, share with people etc.

Alternatives would be Dropbox and SkyDrive etc

I was looking into something similar a few months ago kration, I ended up using Crashplan as it encrypts EVERYTHING sent to the cloud so even the company cannot access it and they have no claim on it. My worry with skydrive, dropbox etc is that they keep altering terms and conditions to give them rights to use content.

Crashplan has unlimited space, but it is VERY slow to upload. However once it's there you're pretty much hassle free. Mine backs up all my documents, music etc to the Crashplan cloud as well as to a local crashplan encrypted backup. I have restored over 10Gb from the cloud when a HDD broke recently so I know it works. It isn't meant as a drop and drop alternative to Google drive etc though, it's for proper long term storage and retrieval.

Crashplan can be installed and used free, only the cloud option is a paid for service and it'll only suit some people.

My current backups on Crashplan are around 251Gb, that includes a lot of my photos from holidays, music, documents etc. For me it was perfect but you'll need to weigh up the pros and cons yourself. My photos are worth far more to me than the cost of the plan!

Excellent advice - that's exactly what I've decided to do.
