I used google local and thought it was cool. I does a good job at zooming into where I work and where I live in Dublin, and the map overlay was accurate. (Too bad it doesn't contain detail for Dundalk, apart from a blurry aerial photo)

I assume google maps uses the same information as google local?

And is google earth just the photograph part of google local? (I can't install it on my PC at work to try it out myself)

As far as I know, Google Maps is Google Local, minus the widely advertised brand name.

I'm not sure if it's the same for all the imagery, but from what I've seen Google Earth uses different (Often better, I've found) images to Google Maps/Local. You can choose to have various overlays over the images (roads, sites of interest and even 3D buildings in some areas), but I don't think you can have the vector-like look you get on Maps/Local :)
