We have two people using one machine, both using googlemail.

Is there a way to create two shortcuts that go into the appropriate accounts?

i think you can have two chrome shortcuts for two different users

so if you make the homepage gmail it should work

Is it 1994? Two people, two Windows logins.

No it's 2014, with one pair of adults with one logon - Are you seriously telling me we have to log off a user and back into a different user, just to read email? In 2014?

You have two users using a computer, why are you making things difficult for yourself instead of going down the obvious route of having two user accounts?

If you really want to do the user switching in a browser instead of the OS then delegate account access to the other account, and then log in using the account with the delegated access and you will be able to switch between the two mailboxes using the Google account picker thing at the top right.

Alternatively create two user profiles in Firefox and use a different shortcut to access each one http://kb.mozillazine.org/Command_line_arguments#List_of_command_line_arguments_.28incomplete.29

We've survived for many years with the two of us surviving with one account. Things certainly wouldn't be "easier" for us logging off and on between two accounts (wasting loads of time and effort) for no other reason than just so we can go into google mail? :(

For example, here's something that's instantly easier:- https://accounts.google.com/AccountChooser?service=mail

That gives you a list of your accounts (our accounts) and you click one, and then press sign in. Done...

Not as slick as a single click, but three isn't bad I guess :) And certainly better than logging off and on between accounts.

I'll continue looking for that magic one click solution to go into different gmail accounts :)

Not sure if I follow that sorry. Can you explain it again?

EDIT: I see you've added a URL about Firefox profiles... I'll take a look! Ta!

Afaik that account switcher wants passwords re-entering, at least it does for me.

Only the first time typically. I hop between four google accounts. Sometimes I will go weeks without entering a password, sometime it will be multiple times in a day. Using drive across multiple accounts seems to really screw with it!

OK, after experimenting, this is the seemingly the best method. So two icons on the desk top:-
firefox.exe -p PersonA
firefox.exe -p PersonB

Each icon opens up each persons own browser which has their own bookmarks and cookies etc. So when they then go into gmail it's their own account defaulted in.

Only slight issue is if browser is already open and someone tries to open a browser to the other profile, it's ignored and the current users profile is used again. ie: Only one profile can be used at a times across all incarnations of Firefox.

Shame, but it's not proved an issue so far closing any/all browsers before opening up the other persons. IMHO if you try to open a profile and it can't because you're already using another, it should give you a warning, not ignore it!
