Anyone use google mail with mail.app? I have it running via IMAP and im getting a really annoying problem with the "All Mail" folder. Basically it downloads 2 copies of every incoming email, one to my inbox and one to the All Mail folder. So im having to delete mails twice every time. What's that all about?

Any help would be great.

The inbox just holds the items that are due for your inbox (obv.), the all mail folder is just all the mail that the account has (again obv.).

I think the problem is that Gmail can set weird filters/labels on it's own authority, I know I had to edit my labels because of the same problem.

What/How did you edit the labels mate?

I'm currently using POP3 because, while i'd much prefer IMAP, it sure doesn't do what Google says it does here in Mail. The most annoying being deleting a message from the Inbox or the Gmail Spam folder just sends it to the Gmail trash folder, instead of either archiving it or just deleting it from all existence.

Yeah, I've noticed that to.

You can manually set it to delete the Gmail trash folder at set intervals, i.e. 1 week.

(Don't quote me, but I remember digging around on the Gmail site trying to sort this).

After playing around and sending more emails to myself than i'd like to admit - to test what happens to them when I do various things... I think i've managed to get up working :)

For me the key was in the Mailbox Behaviors part of account settings, if I tell it not to send messages to the trash it now behaves how I want it. Deleting a message from the Inbox will just archive it :D

I'm happy, can now use my Mac and N95 simultaneously for email.
