Hey guys,

I remember reading a guide to save my battery on my HTC desire and think I turned off the setting that allows google maps to work so I can work my way around London without a bit of paper!

Could anyone just clarify what setting I need enabled to make sure it'll work.

Thanks

Gustov

Could be. That may, or may not, actually turn the GPS on. :p I've not got a Desire so I can't check really, although I do have a Magic. With the Cyanogen 6 or whatever version I have on the Magic there's a bar of icons to turn Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, screen brightness on/off or up/down etc. :)

Might be Any of these 3:

Settings > Location and Security >

Use Wireless networks - this sniffs the MAC Address of nearby wireless switches, looks it up in skyhook and skyhook sends back the GPS location of the switch greatly increasing location accuracy. It will also use Cell tower triangulation to guesstimate your current location. Works well in combination with GPS.
Use GPS Satellites Simply enables the GPS chip, essential for decent accuracy (sub <50m or so). Requires a long startup time if the first option isn't turned on as it needs to receive this big logbook from the satellites themselves which takes upto 10 mins.
Use Sensor Aiding - Might be Galaxy S only, not 100% sure - Uses the onboard compass + gyro to estimate your vector, helps with point to point location tracking (think walking, slower movements)

Basically you want as many of these on as you can. Using GPS Satellites without use wireless networks is going to hurt in london as london is full of wifi networks (great) but the tall buildings reflect the gps signal all over the place making a lock really hard to get (really bad).
