Google Maps, Help

Has anyone found that just lately, that Google Maps, really is playing up, one minute I can access the satellite, views/layer, yet if i come off google maps, and go to another tab, then return it does not properly zoom in and doesn't load. Oh and if I switch from Map to Satelite, it goes to a black screen..... Aaaghhh, is there a way to prevent Google Maps from doing this (using chrome)?

Hardware acceleration setting in the browser can sometimes affect it - I've had times when either setting it to on or off will cause problems with google map's performance and compatibility but it seems random which setting will work nicely with it and when.
