What are peoples general opinion on Google maps mobile for the s60 series phones? I've tried Nokia's Maps application but it seems that unless you pay money for a licence, it's just a glorified paper map.

For navigating or for maps?

If the former, that's not really what it's intended for. It'll show you a route, but you it's not a turn-by-turn navigator.

For maps, it's better than Nokia Maps to use and has a few extra features - but for this purpose it's still just a "glorified paper map".

For working out where you are and finding places, Google Maps Mobile on S60 is excellent. I use it all the time and the GPS locks on very quickly. It's useless if you haven't got unlimited data though.

If you want turn-by-turn, Garmin XT is probably the best.

The only time I use Nokia Maps is when I'm abroad and don't want to use any data.

Like for walking directions to attractions and finding places to eat, is Google maps for this?

yea its for that

the finding places to eat thing is quite good actually

its great for finding places when on foot but pretty useless in a car due to having to constantly downloads pieces of maps

I find it very useful if I am out and about. I was lost the other week so I got out my Touch HD, started Google Maps, turned on GPS within the application and did the 'my location' thing. It found me and I had that on for a few minutes whilst I drove to where I was looking for :)

It helped me find a Hair Dres... Sorry Barbers in Newbury the other Day!!.. it was tucked down a side street from where I was!... got me there in no time!!.. its a Cool Prog!!..

(btw.. Mines the WinMo version on my Omnia!!)
