Google nest relocation question

Hi the problem in my house is that the google nest is situated in the open kitchen/dining area and this area obviously gets quite hot when cooking. When everything was getting kitted out I think I made the wrong decision in where to locate the nest, as I was going to go for the hallway but decided not to!

While the heating is on and as the nest is located in this area the heating will often turn off at around 22C but the rest of the house like the passage and upstairs will just not be warm enough. So end result is having to turn the heating up a notch, which makes it feel unbearable in the kitchen/diner.

I've played around with the settings and balanced the radiators around with the thermostats and it has slightly helped but not that fantastic. I've noticed that a temperature of 21.5C during the night seems to be just about right for all of the little ones etc.

However, just wondering about the nest.

Today I took the top off and this happened:

what I'm wondering is if I disconnected those wires, took out the base from the wall and connected it via USB and moved it say the bedroom upstairs, does that look like it will work?

So like for instance will the google nest turn off when like the temperature in the bedroom hits 22c?

Then you balance the radiators around your home to accommodate it. Sticking it in the hottest place in your home (kitchen) would be the dumbest thing you can do as every time you do some cooking it turns the heating off in your home for hours until it's dispersed making the rest of your home cold.

The second worst location would be a living room. As they usually have fires and humans in them creating heat. So if you have 6 friends come over heating turns off and rest of your home is now freezing.

There is a reason why 99% of homes have the stat in the downstairs hallway. Heat rises. Sticking it in a bedroom would be a no-no. As there will be humans in there creating heat too as well as hot air moving upwards into the upstairs of the home.

yes I get that, I ended up putting it into the wrong place but will my new plan work via USB?

I got spare sockets under the stairs that will allow me mount it in the hallway but then I'd be leaving exposed cables in the dining room.
 
Thanks I will give this a go but the cable seems too short. I need like 2 metres long so I can do a neat job.

Which cable is that? Mini Usb to usb?
 
You are right about the hallway I think
But the key will be to rebalance the radiators

In theory i always wanted to select a temperature and keep the nest on 24/7 but this has not been possible so far!

yes tell me about it! it's hard to convince them otherwise

let's see if the nest location in the hallway makes a difference. Just need the weather to be colder now

what connector is that btw? usb to mini usb?
 
Well the good news is that I was able to get the nest off of the wall and temporarily power it on via usb
However justt wondering what is actually detecting the temperature?


Is it the lovely round google nest or is it that white thermostat thing that is tucked away in my kitchen coupbard?

If so then this exercise is pointless
