I have not seen anyone post anything about this device. So thought I would start a thread.

I was really happy to hear this device finally released in the UK! Bought it on the day of release (Thurs March 26th) and got it set up in no time!

Updated to Lollipop 5.1 right away. Installed Plex and Netflix onto it and all works fine. Also sideloaded Kodi (XBMC) at the weekend and I am happy with it! This is what I was waiting for. It was either get the Raspberry Pi 2 or Amazon Fire TV. But the Nexus Player was the deal breaker for me. Kodi works like a dream and the missus is even more happy that she can now watch her soaps either "live" or via catch up.

Has anyone else bought the Nexus player? If so, what do you make of it?

There's plenty more that this little device can do, but for now, I am pleased with what I am using it for. Might get a controller at a later date. But with eventual arrival of the Steam boxes later this year, I might get one of those instead!

The Fire TV is twice as powerful, cheaper, and has a wired Ethernet connection, optical out and a USB port that reads from storage devices.

All well and good. But unlike the Nexus Player, IIRC, you have to pay for certain apps including Plex, from Amazon. And while some might think that's not an issue, I prefer the luxury of having it for free from Google. Maybe next year Google will bring out a newer version with LAN capability and other features. But for now, I am happy it's here and I can use it and enjoy what it offers me. I don't buy movies and TV shows off Google Play as most of what they offer, I already own or can watch via Netflix.

Also, as you mentioned, I am using it purely for Plex, Kodi and Netflix. I did look at the Fire TV way before the Nexus Player became available as well as almost buying a Raspberry Pi 2.

And, it's showing as £79 on Amazon for the Fire TV.

But SKILL is right, this thread was more a general thread on the Nexus Player and not its specific uses. For me, it's a Google product and I love Google! :)

EDIT: Just seen that you can now get Plex for free from Amazon. Guess they got a few complaints on that front!
