Google Now - Who actually makes use of it?

Google now is the future.

Yesterday I was at work, Googling places to eat. I found one and as soon as I left work it somehow knew the exact location I wanted to go (it wasn't the closest one) and it gave me directions, traffic info, bus stop time. Was amazed.

I normally use it for calender, weather, travel, and Google search replacement.

Weather is good, Stocks and Shares are useful but the Sports is crap as it only seems to search American Teams!..

Not sure about that - it's worked out that I am a QPR fan and puts fixtures up automatically:

I do go to games though so maybe it's worked out I am a QPR fan by my location on match days?

It's a shame they haven't opened up the API to developers, I hope that happens sometime.

I did manage to bugger mine up today, and not sure how to fix. On the usual commute pop-up, I noticed the little info bubble and you could change between walking/driving/public transport! I foolishly changed it to public transport (which I don't think really works outside the US?) and now It's gone forever............

That weird, public transport works just fine for me. In the morning it tells me when to catch the train to get to work on time, and if there is delay it normally has a secondary route to take.

It's pretty cool, but not yet at the point where I'd consider it useful.

The traffic updates are good, but because I work rotating shifts (6-2/2-10) it doesn't tell me at the correct times as it doesn't learn that fast! It's worked out where I work and live on its own though (though I've since added them properly) and also a few other places I visit frequently like Costa! Quite scary really!

Weather updates are good, and so are maps loading when you search for them on a PC. However it's slow at updating for POIs in the area and stuff like that. It could use a few tweaks!

It's automatically decided I'm a fan of MUFC and MCFC and is giving me notices... I'm not really but I do search a lot at work getting the scores for the lads, so it's pretty smart I guess!

Yes but you're in London, where public transport exists and functions ;). In Bristol, the 11th largest city in the UK it's impossible to determine how I can even get anywhere on public transport, let alone then find out when that is or how much it will cost!

I'm more concerned I don't seem able to turn it back to Car mode!

Correct, but the card no longer comes up - I guess because it couldn't work out a public transport route for my commute. Hopefully it will just come back eventually! All my other common places are still up (that's maccy d's on a friday night lol).

I think you can go into Sample cards and check if a type of card has been disabled.

think i looked at it once by mistakenly doubling clicking home button (didn't even realise it was there before..) looked at it but never used it since

Hit show more cards and you should see travel card again, then you can change the settings.

I like the map thing but that's literally it in terms of what I use it for. It works with other browsers as well you just have to be signed into google is all

Yeah, I think this is something Google has that most others don't, they have so many touch points to pull data from; email, web, social media (to some extent) and so on. Someone like Apple can't really keep up.

Travel cards still come up, but my commute does not. They've changed it so mode of transport is per journey, so my other common car journeys still appear but because It can't work out a public transport route for my commute it doesn't even come up.

ANYWAY! I've fixed it now, I completely disabled Google Now for a couple days then turned it back on. It's slowly learning again and commute card re-appeared today! Huzzah.

On holiday abroad it seems to be very useful. Pops up with directions from the airport via public transport to the hotel, some popular attractions with directions, exchange rates (as well as letting you enter amounts for quick conversion), current time at home and abroad, weather at different cities you may be visiting.

Since they've updated it recently, I can't choose the mode of transport for commutes.

Quite annoying, because I use public transport and walk everywhere. Whenever it suggests traveling to somewhere it defaults to driving.
