Google Pixel 6a

So I picked one up out of curiosity, plus I was needing a solid backup phone for work etc and compared to the Pixel 6 I get on a lot better with it.

It's quite surprising to me but the size/weight is just so much better in this device than the 6 which in all honesty felt that little bit bulky and was severely top heavy in the weight distribution. The 6a feels light, great in the hand and from a quick mess around with it the screen is absolutely fine and the 60hz is certainly something that hasn't bothered me.

Yes the 6 was abormanly weighty for its size. I'm glad the 6a is a relative hit.
 
Mine's setup, looking for the next wallpaper :) looking into the settings reminds how much google knows about me.. Phone seems fine, ordered a Spigen Thin Fit Case coming tomorrow.

Coming from a 3A its nice screen size upgrade. The hole punch is fine. Colours aren't as saturated, not sure which phone is more accurate but I think I preferred the popping colours on the 3A. Both on adaptive colour mode.

Minor manufacturing(?) issue that I can feel a slight edge with my finger on one back corner, can't see it though, with case on that won't be an issue.

The Pixel buds that came with it look good, I'll keep those as I these are my first wireless buds in recent years. More for podcasts and audiobooks as I tend to use my DAC/headphones on PC for music listening.

Gonna take ages to correct my muscle memory for thumb and not finger to unlock the phone.

Saw a youtuber going on about both his thumbs unlocked the phone but only one thumb was registered. nope all good. I mean, not any issue anyway?

My 3A says its 24C outside but my 6A says its 23C :)

I like to keep things completely separate with no temptation to look at the work stuff when on holiday for example.
 
Anyone managed to get the day one update down for this? Mine arrived with April 2022 Android build and isn't showing the supposed latest version available for download.

Fairly happy to have sent back the 6 last week and picked up this little beast instead... Still have iPhone 13 Pro as primary, but this thing is pretty neat really.
 
Bought one of these as an upgrade from my Blackberry Key2LE. I hate having to use a touch keyboard, but there are no decent physical keyboard keyboard phones these days. :(

It's a big upgrade in every other respect though, especially the camera. The free Pixel Buds A I got with it are also surprisingly decent.

After seeing there are some issues with the fingerprint reader I found my left thumb could open the phone, even though I hadn't registered it! :eek:
However, no other fingers apart from my right thumb (which is the properly registered print) can open it, and none of my family's fingers work.

I'm thinking it might be because my thumbprints are a bit worn.

Oh, I am using a screen protector too, in case that makes a difference.

Yes, that's what work profiles are for. Turn them off and nothing is sync'd from your work account. Or, you're saying you're weak-willed? :cry:
 
My thumbprint isn't very good, mostly worn away, due to whatever my thumb has been up to for the past 20 years, lets say gaming? :) so unlock with thumb doesn't work up to half the time, I register other thumb and maybe more fingers as backup. I only need thumb for bank app etc.

It's working today but last night maybe after washing up (Saturday night craziness) it just wasn't working at all.

Interesting topic that all these banking apps are assuming the fingerprint sensor has decent security and reliability.

My Pixel 1 and 3A finger sensor never had any issues.
 
Having had about 18 months away from Android, it's mostly great to have returned to it from iOS, but there are a couple of things I'm missing.

The main one is that I've got my work emails on my personal phone, and also have things like Discord for when I'm gaming. On my iPhone I set up personal, gaming, and work "focus modes". Personal had no notifications from work or gaming, gaming had everything except work, and work had everything except gaming.

Is there a way to do something similar on Android? It looks like you can set up one focus mode, but can't have multiple ones

Call it weak willed but it's simply there is that lingering temptation to check up on something you left. Like @hyperfighting I'm separate SIM so completely switched off with no temptation.

MrMobile's review is up now and I think it highlights very well why the 6a is fantastic in its price point.
