Google Pixel 8/8 Pro & Pixel Watch 2

Functionally once set up it works just like a physical sim. You can choose which sim is default for calling/sms/mobile data or you can set it to ask which one you want to call from every time. From memory it does say which network/sim the incoming call is coming from.

Why would anyone want an esim? I know there must be an advantage of some sort but I'm [probably embarrassingly] not seeing it.

In this case it's the only way to do dual SIM. Otherwise I'd have physical Sims.

EDIT: Without the need for physical distribution, new contracts could be set up without having to wait for the sim to arrive. Also, you don't have the cost/physical waste/associated paper documentation etc. of having to make and distribute a physical sim, but that's of more interest to the providers than the customer.

How's the pixel buds pro? Got some earfun buds atm and wondered if worth the expense to go all out google
I like them and they're my go to buds out of the many I have. Sounds great, ANC is also great and the touch control are super responsive and accurate.

Going rate is 100quid on ebay.

I did find it a bit of a flaff moving my esim from pixel 5 to pixel 8. It was not quite as straightforward as I thought. Would have been much easier to take said sim out of old phone and insert it.

I am sure simcards will be a thing of the past in a few years.

They're convenient for sure. They're low range though if you ask me they don't even support decent codecs.
I'll stick to my wired for quality.

Yeah can't be bothered with the hassle of wired. Not sure whether they would be a big improvement on my current pair but sounds like the gestures would at least be

The gestures bugged me I turned it all off every time I touched then to move them a bit out did something I didn't want it to.

I'm lucky my wired are also my good wireless as well, lol. I use the Pixel Buds when I don't want to risk losing my others.

What are they out of interest

For me coming from a 7 Pro, the difference is enough to warrant the upgrade.

Flat screen

2400 nits brightness

Feels better in the hands than the 7 Pro

Better camera

More controls on the camera

The overall using of the 8 Pro feels better than the 7 Pro.

If you have the cash & can get a good trade in go for it.

I don't miss my 7 pro one bit.

Agreed, I thought I'd been a bit underwhelmed moving form a 7Pro to the 8Pro but its actually a decent upgrade, factor what I got for the phone watch it wasn't too bad of an upgrade.

Took the plunge, got an exceptional deal on the Pixel 8 256Gb (other half through work got it at 50% off so couldn't resist !) its coming at the weekend to replace my still excellent Pixel 5 (my son will inherit the 5, his Pixel 2 is really starting to show its age). I was really torn between the 8 and 8 pro but for me the size of the 8 edged it, hopefully it will be just like my 5 but just betterer :D

I've just randomly checked the play store for app updates. And interestingly one update is for the Pixel Camera. I like how camera updates can be done through the store and not via OTA.

Had it a week now and I'm happy with it, no sign of any specific overheating issues with my usage, getting around 4.5hrs SOT and 40% left at the end of the day so thats nice.

I had picked up a Spigen slim fit case which felt anything but slim, the raised lip made it feel chunkier than it actually is perhaps. Swapped it out for an X-Level guardian and it feels a lot nicer in hand.

Nova seems buggy on it but it looks like I am not the only one: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/296108449?pli=1

120hz (forced on) is really nice but no doubt it'll rinse the battery so I will keep that off.

Camera is the standout upgrade though, perfect as I am taking more pics now of my new little one!
