Hi

Anybody using the Postini service for mail security? I had a demo of it and it seems really good. I like the idea of mail being filtered outside of the corporate network, also adds a layer of security as you only need to accept SMTP connections from Postini.

Anyone got any experieces / opinions?

Thanks

Yup, we used it, really good product to be honest. We have around 3000+ users using it, it also does spooling etc and is really easy to manage, especially with AD sync!

Yeah, I read up on the spooling, could be quite a useful feature when disaster strikes!

I can't believe how competetive it is in terms of cost, it's like £7 per user! I don't think anything can touch it when it comes to value for money. I think it's quite probable that we'll be going down the Postini route, I'm really struggling to find a reason not to.

We use it and have for a long time now.
Used to use another product but this is superb, effortless and very efficient.

Highly recommended...

I use Messagelabs an they are £4.75 a user for web and email filtering.

Mimecast might be worth a look also....

MessageLabs, £4.75 per user, for web, and mail? Is that 'definate'?

Seems 'extremely' cheap to me!!

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm definately going to go down the Postini route, I was very impressed with the demo.

The additional layer of security that it adds to an infrastructure is what I find most attractive, I suppose with any hosted solution it's the same. I like the fact that all my mail is clean before it even enters the network, no bandwidth wastage, no server overheads, nothing!

I'm also a fan of the DR functionailty, if the mail infrastructure is unavailable for whatever reason, it will spool my mail until it can deliver. Marvellous. I love good software, I love it even more when it's cheap!

that's a per user per month cost and yeah that's right, they dropped the price a few months back so if you're paying more than that then have a word when you renewal comes round. To be honest, now Google have got involved, prices will continue to plummet unless you are getting unique features.

Mimecast is worth a look for their Outlook integration and a few other nice features but on price they can't compete as Google can afford to sell Postini at cost (or less) as they just want a userbase that they can then migrate on to Google Apps in the future.

Personally I would avoid MessageLabs as they were using a lot of 3rd party technology to plug gaps for areas like email archiving and DR and now they have been bought by Symantec there will inevitably be some disruption.

Just my two pence, I've been out of this space for a few months but for anyone looking at it, just make sure to try a few alternatives and then beat the price down as all the vendors can cut good deals right now.

^ Thats fantastic!! we are using crappy spamfighter on our clients this is cheaper and seems quite good!

My only worry as our clients are all remote we would get so many calls we didnt get this email through then logging on and releasing them..or does it have a low false positive rate? :)

It does have an extremely low false-positive rate, indeed.

You don't have to mess about with releasing mail for customers though, it sends through a summary email of all quarantined mail to each user and they can release the mail for themselves.

If you just want clean (virus and spam-free) email then Postini is impossible to beat for the price. If you want extra features like archiving, DR, DLP, etc then shop around a little more and give Postini's support a test or two as I have heard that they are a bit weak (this was a while back so may/should have improved).

Email filtering is fast becoming a commodity product, Google and Symantec buying the two biggest players is only going to speed that up so everyone should be looking to pay less and get more. There really is no need to be using rubbish solutions anymore.

It's standard pricing with a small discount. They must give it away to educational and government orgranisations!
