Google releases google maps for iOS

Ahaha! See! Google are awesome.

All this Android fanboy nonsense about Google ceasing plans to help Apple out of their lone map decision was utter tripe. Google also need google maps anonymous location services to collect data and improve their own services so it's win-win.

I left bloody Apple because of their maps travesty amongst many other reasons. I am glad they have let Google produce that app. Hoping there will be an iPad version at some point as I used to use G.Maps heavily on that device during business trips and so on.

It was more like Apple fanboys cacking themselves that Apple weren't going to allow the Google offering on to the store. :D

Oh, had apple banned google from releasing a maps app until now?
No.

I've set up my home and work locations but the problem is that it's flagged home as being two streets out from my address and I can't see any way to manually correct this. Is there a way?

You mean it's pulling your home address from your contacts entry and then misplacing it by two streets?

Based on my 160 mile route to my parents in Wales, Apple maps wins on first inspection.

Google only gives me 2 alternatives, neither of which is the more direct route I take. Apple gives me 3 including my usual route.
Also my estate only has one proper exit. The other one is blocked off to split up traffic flow. Apple maps correctly directs me out of the estate. Google maps tries to send me through a bollard.

The satellite map resolution in exactly as we've expected, which is a nice bonus but I think I'll keep google for looking at locations and Apple for the satnav.

Not quite, I've told it my home address including street name, house number and postcode and it's lumping me two streets away. I don't seem to be able to manually reposition it.

It's kind of annoying how Google deliberately held back turn-by-turn and other stuff on iOS, which was one of the reasons Apple started developing their own maps app and ditched them... now Google come back with most of the stuff that they were asking for in the first place.

I'm pretty sure that the issue was Apple was unwilling to accept the agreement terms which is why Google Maps wasn't updated with those features.

I saw the errors but in Belgium the apple maps work just as well (if not better) than google maps.

Good think about google is they show the streets in both languages which is very useful as

Rue du Taciturne is also called Willheimdezwigerstraat :)
