Any news on this in the UK?

Word I've read its not being released in Sweden until next summer and I want a few now so time to shop about.

Hopefully I'll be able to upload Swedish versions of android store apps without issues....

no deals when I looked yesterday, I think they are trying to protect the existing ultra+v3 'values' which are in black friday sales, so wait until xmas
lot's of roku ss+ deals too, that might have been converted to v4 purchases.

I need to check hardware specs, I don't care about games, but, I don' think these represent competiton for a shield though - with plex client transcoding capability

There's an £89 bundle that includes £53 of Netflix credit. Makes it a little more palatable!

No lossless audio or DTS support. DD/DD+ only

I've got one, after patiently waiting over 12 months for it to arrive.

To be honest, it's a total letdown. I'm really disappointed with it.

Google TV as an OS is quite poor. No app switching, that's how bad it is! The apps are wowful.

Case in point: Nest which is google owned, can't be used if you have migrated your nest account to a google account. Something Google asked you to do a few months back lol

No Picture in Picture as promised. No camera alerting as promised. No audio outputting to google speakers. No stadia. No xcloud. It's basically a glorified Roku.

Hell, a big thing about this was the ability to use Google Duo with a camera, yet there's no USB port on it.....and neither a LAN port. You have to buy a third party USB-C hub.

It's also sluggish. Surely in 2020 they have used a processor to give a silky smooth experience, but nope.....I know £59 isn't like £200+ of an apple TV, but I didn't expect it to be like this.

I used my OG Chromecast a lot when I didn't have a smart TV in my bedroom but that's basically redundant now. I've got a Roku in the lounge and was considering upgrading to this, based on what we were promised, but it sounds like another Google beta test.

Given they've just dumped Nest Secure in America and haven't updated their cams or doorbell in years, I wouldn't be surprised to see them dump Chromecast in a year or two if they don't get their act together.

I wish I'd not bought it. The only reason I'll probably keep it, is that I need casting for my oculus quest headset. If I had the older model, it would be going back for a refund.

I picked up one of these for the mother in law. Arrived yesterday with free next day delivery. Was setup in a couple of mins.

I just wanted something simple for her to use when my kids were round or when bored senseless in lockdown. I’ve shared my Netflix, Amazon and Disney + and it seems to work quite nicely.

Saves her buying a new TV.

Mine finally came from England.

Pros.
Android TV.
4k Casting
Remote
dolby atmos - hdr10+ blah blah

Cons
Unexciting upgrade form v3.
Limited apps, my god in sweden i get like 10 apps.

Ive been using google Chromecasts since release. THis is a nice update but its nothing ground breaking and its only 50 or 60 quid so honestly what do you expect :p
Its a good add on to any non Android TV as would apple tv be, to get you access to more software.
I have one on My OLED LG TV just because webos is terrible.. I mean shocking bad.

Im very pro android, these new ones cover all the basics imo.

For all my sibs, I picked one up last weekend.

The device itself-really nice. Would I have preferred a black version? Yep, but Google aren’t going that route now so the white was the next best colour. Could see myself buying a pink one for my daughter at some point to match her Nest Mini.

Remote-awesome. Love the Netflix and YouTube buttons. In our house they are our two most popular apps so no complaints from me there.

Initial setup was nice and easy as you’d expect from a Google device. Most of the work was done in the Home app.

It recognised my Sonos Beam and B7 with no issues so the remote can do volume and turn the TV off. Nice.

Went through an update and then was good to go.

UI-fantastic. I’m a massive Apple TV fan but I have to imagine that what Google has come up with is what they envisioned for the ATV app. The fact they got Netflix part of it as well is a major coup IMO. The fact that I can just scroll through content that’s in the apps in the For You section and it will just load in what you’ve selected is awesome.

What I expect to do is load in our family account and use that account so we have a central hub of suggested content to choose from as opposed to merely my own.

Now this little dongle doesn’t come without issues....

The big one: No auto frame rate change. Which I’m sure has already been mentioned. I messed around with the various settings and currently have it setup at 4K/50. Everything appears to be ok(?), but I know this will be a deal breaker for some/most so if you’re likely to get annoyed about this then I’d stay clear. I hope that with their Android 11 update this is resolved.

UK apps-again, quite a big thing in that there is no All 4 or Now TV. Casting is available but for me, that defeats the point of having the UI & remote. I know Google signed that deal regarding Freeview Play but I don’t know if that’s geared towards actual TV’s as opposed to their streaming device, because the apps do exist on Sony TV’s with Android TV. So again, the prayers must go to the Channel 4/Sky gods and maybe they’ll pull their fingers out and make compatible apps for the Android TV streaming devices...

You won’t get Live TV playback from ITV Hub either-only catchup. iPlayer and my5 do provide live playback as far as I’m aware.

YouTube-don’t know if it’s something to do with my setup but the YT app seems to be a bit hit and miss with its playing of 4K content. Like a video is clearly flagged as 4K and then only shows it as 1080p. I select another video and the quality shows as 4K. Very strange and hope it’s merely a bug.

For full disclosure, this was bought with the intent to use it with Stadia once its rolled out in app form (or even as a section in the top bar?) to the new CC. I’ll definitely be flipping between this and the ATV initially, but given how intuitive the UI appears to be with me only having an hours worth of usage, I can definitely see me/us leaning towards using the CC going forward.

@TheOracle regarding your Nest stuff: Have you tried using the Assistant button to show you the camera you want to see? I asked to see the camera in our daughter's room and it pulled it up on the screen...

Got mine yesterday and I really like it, but it’s going back :(

Google hasn’t implemented auto frame rate switching, so Plex plays content at 60fps which is awful. Google don’t seem very keen to update this device, so I’ll have to look for something else to replace it with.

The frame rate update is coming with Android 11. But as you say, when that happens is another thing.

Still liking mine, but I bought it for it’s eventual Stadia integration so it’s not the main streaming device in our house just yet.

I set the device to 1080p/50 based on your findings above and TV shows aren't so smooth, but they still don't have that cinematic feel.
