That would be one big case!

As for sketchup itself, it can be frustrating. Keep using it and it will get a bit better.

Nice design, but my recollection of sketchup was it was a bit primitive, with too much emphasis on usability. Yeah, it's simple, but it doesn't offer the more advanced features that other CAD packages too.

Just downloaded and had a go with google sketch up... after 90minutes, I can see it being a good starting point for beginners, but it seems a little limited... I've managed to draw the base layout of a case, but not much further. I can't get the curve tool to work either. The tutorial is pretty bad.

Indyskyz - to save space in that case you could stack the hard drives above each other and shorten it a little. I like the idea, but way way too big.

Have to agree with the size of it, stack the hddisks above the psu then mount the pump/res onto the sidewall of the case :)

maya sucks ugnx owns

Can't get anywhere with google sketchup, it's just too frustrating. Thankfully I have several programs supplied by my course. Nice design mate, though it is enormous :)

lol thanks for the comments i might have a rejig of my original concept at some point and get it to a normal size haha

i too find SketchUp frustrating. getting used to how it works now though. and have been working on a SSF case for an itx board :)

Do you REALLY need that much cooling . . . Or are you using it as a home air re-circulation syste, :p?

Yeah, I use Solidworks myself. Never even heard of UGNX. Whats it geared towards?

Have you ever tried to use blender? Its free opensource and my god its poor . . . .

i just wanted to prove to myself that i could do better really havent added any hdds or other wc stuff but meh want to concentrate on the itx system

JonJ678 that looks really good

Cheers. May be a while before it's decedent is manufactured, the design is just about finished but funding looks a problem. Soildworks is a good one I believe, but I don't have it available so haven't used it.
NX is a fairly comprehensive package which I'm not very good with yet, but they do a stripped down version called solid edge which I'm pretty good with now. The models in the other thread were done on solid edge, but I'm starting to move up to nx as solid edge is ultimately limited.

Finite element analysis still to come, only got as far as making models and basic mechanisms so far. Cad with a 2.7ghz amd and 1gb of ram is horrible.

Any pictures of the itx system? it's remarkably hard to make something very small which still has air moving through it. My designs are somewhat crippled by needing to hold four hard drives, I think the smallest dimensions I got down to were around 100x200x300 mm

hi ive done mine as W 400mm D 200mm H 100mm
holds 2 standard hdds an itx board and a slot/notebook dvd writer
will have an itx psu board and external power brick
been looking at this mobo Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi Mini-ITX and a low profile freezer 7
