Google search has always been fairly reasonable and not obnoxiously annoying. I don't know what has changed but over the past couple of weeks it is constantly forgetting 'settings'. I have that stupid trending searches thing switched off, history off, safe search off, images unblurred, etc. Up to know those settings have 'stuck' but lately they just keep going back to the 'default' of annoying ***** that I don't want to see.

Anyway, Google is ****.

Possibly a cookie issue. Not had any problems with it so far myself, though sometimes updates to some browsers seem to mess with it.

Google's been getting worse for years, but yea what Rroff said it's probably a cookies issue. Also it's not just Google that's been getting worse, since they bought YouTube that's been going down hill also.

I've read/hear some people say it's Googles interest to make the experience worse as you're forced to spend more time on the site, most time on the site = more add revenue.

IDK about anyone else but my uBlock cosmetic filter for Google now runs to near on 70 rules that remove all the rubbish in their results.

Sounds like a cookie issue.

I stooped using google search last year as it was always returning seo garbage and loads of extra guff I don't want from a Google search. Switched to ecosia for much 'purer' search results and it plants trees whilst I search.

I'm not clearing cookies or doing anything different than I've done over the last several years. Might be a background update to Safari or something that's causing it.

Yea Google is pretty awful.

I used to be an unbiased search engine that was clever in how it looked through the content of sites.

This was back in the day I mean, like 20 years ago.

Now it's become so commercial, most of what it shows you is sponsored *****, are there any good alternatives?

It's the same as the youtube premium issue - maybe they should have a payed , no adverts level,
Still need to find a way to get rid of the infinite scrolling, but browser add-ons block/short-circuit the redirects, and the unhelpful(google doesn't know best) auto completions
