I'm taking a trip soon where I'd like to take some video footage of various activities. The relatively small amount of video I'm planning to film means I probably won't be using my DSLR or purchasing a special camcorder etc. as I literally just want a few clips a day.
Usually I'd just use my iPhone for this purpose. It provides a good enough quality video image for what I'm looking for and it's easy to use/I'll always have it on me etc. I also have a set of Olloclip lenses which I would like to use (ideally the wide angle) to capture a greater field of view.
My only issue is that some of the activities I want to film might be in slightly tech-unfriendly environments (like snow, sea, sand etc) or in places that, if I dropped my phone, I'd be heartbroken (as would my device!).
So with all this in mind, I'm wondering whether I'd be better off buying a special case for my iPhone that would be both shock and water proof, possibly have a built-in wide lens and preferably allow me to connect some sort of wrist strap for filming at height etc, OR whether I'd be better off just protecting my iPhone and buying a similarly impervious camera like a GoPro that can handle water, sand, mud, drops from height etc.
Anybody have any suggestions? If I were to go down the minicam route, is a GoPro the way to go? Are there other options? Which model would be best for someone like myself who doesn't particularly want to do any long extensive filming with such a product??
