My girlfriend is taking me to London for my birthday, one of the things we will be doing is going to one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants but we are unsure of which one to go for.

We liked the looks of Petrus and it has great reviews on Trip Advisor, http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186338-d1744881-Reviews-Petrus-London_England.html

Has anyone been to 1 (or more) of them and if so which would you recommend?

We are only going to be there for 2 days and we only just managed to squeeze this into a busy weekend so unfortunately we will have our rucksacks etc with us, is that going to be a problem or will there be a cloakroom to store our extra bags?

I've heard Petrus is very good :)

I have had the luck of going to Maze and Claridges. I preferred Claridges - it wasn't as prententious as I thought it would be and the food and the service was brilliant.

We also had a tour of the kitchen :)

how was the tour of claridges? i doubt they'd offer a tour of the kitchen in maze tbh, some years ago i helped fit some air conditioning units in the rooms next to it.. its quite a way from the restaurant and seems to be very much a 'staff only' area.. it would be a massive let down tbh

The only one I'd bother with nowadays is RHR, but that's closed on the weekend. Petrus is meant to be pretty good, but I hate to reiterate, but tripadvisor is AWFUL for restaurant reviews! I don't think you'll find a serious food person in the UK who would put it in the top 10/20 of London restaurants, let alone no. 2

On another note, does it have to be Gordon Ramsay? I mean there are so many options in London right now, for what you're going to be spending I think you would be able to do a lot better elsewhere.

This I'm not sure on price but rules restraunt never fails to impress me. Superb food , superb service and the place it self just screams class to me

This.

I've been to Maze, Petrus and Boxwood Cafe (when it existed) which were all good, but there's much better out there.

I went to Claridges not so long ago and it was good, but when you have Le Gavroche just a couple of hundred yards away (and if your are not going on the weekend its lunch set menu is the best bargain in London), it's not a patch on it.

I was actually at the Claridges restaurant for lunch yesterday, the food was absolutely phenomenal :)

The staff were really polite and friendly, and as expected for how much you pay the service really was superb.

For me - I would definitely eat there again, once I've saved up enough again haha

I went to the Warrington once, but I don't think that's open any more. Was nice because it was smart casual above a pub. Although my nephew, who was 5 at the time, sent about 4 dishes back because they were not to his satisfaction :D

Royal Hospital Road is awesome, highly recommended.

Yes, really fantastic. Although I would much prefer the old Petrus site - what is now Marcus Wearing at the Berkeley.

There are some really excellent restaurants in London worth going to. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental is very good.
