Hi Guys

I've bought my mum this for Mothers day

My problem is i've seen some others which specify they work for certain cameras and i'm not sure what camera she has, other than its an SLR. Are the fittings a general one suits all style or do different cameras have different fittings and i'd need a different kind of mount?

Cheers

Ok great, i got a bit worried as i was looking on the Gorillapod website and it didn't include the above in the section for SLR's.

Is there any other reason other than fitting that they'd exclude it from their list?

Yeah unless she's using a massively heavy camera - probably only the case if she's a pro photographer, that should be fine. If it's really heavy then it might not be able to support the weight. The tripod mound will be absolutely fine though that's long since been an industry standard.

Oh wait just had a look at it - the SLR cameras will be too heavy to use it magnetically at least not in an attached to lampposts sort of way, and I don't know how strong the magnetic tripod is as a normal tripod so it may well not be able to support the weight of an actual SLR - the Gorillapods are flexible by design which means if you use equipment that's too heavy then you'll likely have problems of the legs bending under the weight of the camera alone.

Ah yeah, just noticed the weight issues. The Magnetic is rated for up to 325g. Wonder how accurate that is as i've just looked at a couple SLR's as a rough idea and they seem to be around 500g.

Think i'll take it back and get the SLR version. I only chose the magnetic as it was red and she likes the colour red as i hadn't realised there were differences between them.

It might be worth checking reviews of the magnetic one? It's very possible the physical tripod itself will support as much as the SLR version - they just say only 325g because they can't say that the magnets will hold for a heavier camera.
