There seem to be mixed reviews floating about in regards to adding either another X2 or just an XT to the combo.

Obviously there's a huge price difference, just wondered if anyone has had hands on experience with this?

Got a x2 other day myself .But after the reviews i might well just leave the 3870XT i was going to buy me thinks till this powerplay/drivers are sorted if they ever are for crossfirex.( a x2 and a 3870 i was going to go for).

From what I've read, 2 x 3870X2 is a bit of a waste and not worth going for, cost against performance gained, the sweet spot appears to be 3870X2 and 3870XT apparently.

I did the BIOS mod on my X2 the day I bought it becuase of that problem. Fixed it straight away! Deff worth doing mate

Indeed... 3870X2 & 3870 looks like a good deal instead of 2 x 3870X2s. Just look at these graphs.

Hmmm, well I do mostly play CoH at 1920x1200 and going by those benchies, the 3 card option does indeed look tempting.

Would it matter though if I had a different branded XT? As my X2 is HIS.

Nah it wouldnt matter if they are different brands.

Me overclock? never;)

Just sold both my 2900Pro 1024MB cards that were running between 850 and 900 (on water) depending on my mood;)

I would water cool the X2, but its so darn quiet anyway, hardly seems worth it.

Yeah and the fact that the EK block cost like £80.

chaps, i have just come across this thread and read with interest, are you suggesting 3 cards work together with the latest drivers? i thought tri sli was a nvidia thing?

ATI have deigned a thing called CrossfireX which is like their Crossfire solution but it allows for more than 2 GPUs to work in Crossfire.

Up to 4 GPUs at the moment.

Latest drivers 8.3 are CrossfireX drivers but its only availsble in Vista at the moment.

have just installed 8.3 and all seems well. Might wait for others to test 8.3 with dual X2's etc and see what the results are like
