I wouldn't mind a Ryzen for the extra cores and IPC but not really feeling like it needs to be done right now (bet memory prices shoot up again now!!)
That's the other thing. Even if my motherboard/PC developed a fault I'd either try and get another X99 based setup. Even if the CPU couldn't be reused, or it wasn't cost effective to source a mobo, I'd still just buy a budget CPU/mobo to re-use the DDR4 RAM/etc as I simply don't need any more CPU power.
Looking back it's actually shocking how little CPU performance has improved in the past 12 years since Intel released the i7-series back in 2008. I guess a modern Ryzen is probably ~4 times the performance of an i7-920 in multi-threaded apps but I suspect that just doesn't translate into a noticeable difference in most use cases.
