got a Asus Maximus II Formula Intel P45 Socket 775 DDR2

depends on what fsb your gonna try get out of your motherboard, if your buying a board like that I'm guessing you want to o/c and possibly lower the multi with a high fsb so get the latter.
 
From what I can see and depending on how much budget you have to spend.

PC6400 for basic overclocking. You probably could get to near or around the 3Ghz mark.

PC8500 for more extreme overclocking. Anything over 3Ghz to run stable.
 
I have pc8000 in mine, but i push the FSB up to 500mhz anyway.

If you are not going to clock, then the pc6400 will be fine, if you wish to really push the overclock, the faster the ram, the better =)
