All, just receive my 40D and nifty 50mm chuffed with them.

I want another lense and fancy the 70-200mm L F4 canon but also seen the 135-400mm Sigma RF APO, does anyone know anything or got any shots with the latter?

I mainly want to take Motor Sport and wildlife photos although it will be used for a wide range of shots, any advice please or any competitors to these two lense also would be much appreciated.

i, like many others here, have the 70-200 f4L and it's fantastic. fast, sharp, great colours, i love it. however 200mm isn't really long enough for wildlife and the majority of motorsport so it'd be difficult to recommend it for that.

i have no experience of the sigma you mention but hopefully it doesn't suffer from sigmas woeful quality control

Have the 300mm prime in sig but have previously had a sigma 170-500 (was ok but very very slow and not sharp at all wide open), a canon 70-200 f/4 (nice and sharp but too slow when it began to get dark) and finally a sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 (best of the bunch and great in low light but was pretty heavy).

In decent light something like the 70-200 canon f/4's either with or without IS would be nice since they are sharp and quite light meaning you could happily carry them around all day.

Plus 200mm is pretty much close enough for motorsport like rallying and possibly even touring car. However, for wildlife 300mm is a bare minimum really.

The sigma 100-300 f/4 is probably the best affordable fairly fast and fairly long zoom available if you can get one at a nice price but as concorde Rules has mentioned the sigma 120-300 (very pricey and mahoosive) and canon 100-400 are good alternatives.

TBH it's pretty difficult as each lens suits different uses, budgets and physical challenges (regarding the very largest lenses ).
