Ok i still have after many years a 6600 not a GT the original, its been a very good card to me and i still get 60+ frames in source etc.. i dont know how but i do, anyway i was wondering if i can soft mod this card to a better card i.e unlock pipes etc.. or if there is another way to increase performance, if u want me to overclock a guide would be nice

I think its a different card, but try flashing the bios? Can riva unlock anything?

i think it is possible to unlock pipes on some 6600 vanilla cards to get the running upto gt speeds....im not too sure though....was years back when i read it.

i have a 6600 vanilla in my 3rd setup...maybe i should try too...i used to have a gt but it knacked up damn...was a good card too

I know with the ATi 9800se (which i had) you downloaded tweaked drivers to unlock the extra pipes (from 4 - 8). Maybe it works the same for the 6600?

i don't think the 6600 cards have anything to unlock??

my memory is a little hazy though.

Have just had a little look through the web and the 6600 only has the 8 pipelines and uses all 8 so nothing to unlock unfortunately.

Apparently on another forum they mention that some flavours of 6600 can be made to 6800 in Rivatuner but depends on the make.

lol what was i smoking when i wrote that........i meant 6800 getting unlocked to a 6800gt.

i now know the op was asking about the 6600 but clearly at the time of reading my brain wasnt functioning too well lol

btw i also meant the 6800gt was a good card lol....didnt like 6600gt i returned it next day
