Got a G500 today - It will not track properly, AT ALL

As mentioned, I purchased a G500 today (brand new) for £40, and I am incredibly disappointed with it. I feel like sparking it with a hammer, it is so unbelievably terrible.

I have the latest Setpoint software/drivers installed.

The mouse will not track on;
My small cloth mouse pad
Plain white paper
My desk (veneer)
card, glossy & plain

It WILL track on (well, to an extent, but still not as well as my old cheap Logitech LS1 Laser mouse);
The base of a baking tray
A Z77 motherboard box... sort of.

I might buy a different pad, but I don't know. Have I purchased a mouse that is FUBAR? I will probably just claim a replacement from work when I'm in tomorrow, if I have the same problem, I'll get a refund and will never buy a Logitech mouse ever again. Causing nothing but grief, and it's brand new,.

"The gaming grade laser gives you hard to beat cursor control"... Hahahahahaha very funny.

So definitely faulty? I'll take it back into work tomorrow, I have a feeling I may have purchased the last in stock though...

And I was right, the website will not let me make a reservation. Oh dear.

It doesnt sound right, the g500 is a decent mouse and should perform better than you describe. I wouldn't diss Logitech, they have customer service that most manufacturers can only dream of! Sounds like you need to call OcUK to find out how to get a replacement.

It isn't from OcUK, it is from a retailer I am forbidden from mentioning. I will have it replaced soon enough, I'll put it on store feedback to have a new one sent out.

Must be dodgy, have a G500 and tracks on basically anything, within reason :P

'within reason' meaning clear objects such as glass and extremely glossy surfaces? Thanks for the reply, all I wanted to know is that they are designed to track on everything and not just specialist gaming surfaces.

I've got it working on glossy paper at the moment, but because the optics are obviously not functioning as they should be, I'm not getting full performance, but it seems like a decent mouse from what I can tell. The scroll wheel is a little loose for my liking but I can live with it, I just need to get used to the feel for the mouse. I prefer my old one for general browsing and this one for playing games, I don't know if that's normal, but it doesn't seem like the most ideal mouse for 'general use'.

Maybe in the future I could have a little play with the ratchets if it wouldn't void the warranty.

In the meantime, does anyone have any good suggestions for a surface? They end up quite dirty in my room, it can be a little dusty. I was looking at the Mionix Ensis... The metal upper surface seems like it would last forever.

Got a G500 here too. Tracks great on my boogie bug matt, or the bare wooden varnished surface of my desk.

I borrowed my friend's G500 the other week as my MX518 is dying and I'm trying to decide whether the G500 is worth the extra over the G400. It tracked on just about everything, including my jeans, desk, a textbook, work documents, even on my mouse mat.

Corsair M60, a much better mouse!!!

The G500 seems to have much more conveniently placed buttons, looks like you will have to stretch or reach for the buttons around the scroll wheel on the G400. Go to your local consumer electronics superstore, you can get a feel for most of the gaming mice they sell.
