Well I work for a generator company and been here a total of 9 yrs

I once read that if you stay in one place for too long then you're a failiure, ladies and gents its time for a change.

I am 28 and feel i need to push more for the things i want. A friend informed me of a position at a power station (some of you may work there :) ) so i applied a few weeks later i got a letter through my door for an interview.

I will be going on Wedsneday but the one thing i am dreading is the "why do you want to work for us" question.

I surely can't say, you pay better, or dude the pensions awesome, or you have a gym on site can i?

Any ideas?

Well i a have a suit, going to by some new shoes and a new tie.

Some might think, saddo but remember i havent been on an interview in over 9 yrs so yeah of course i'm excited and a bit scared .

"It's time for change?" As simple as that.

Not got much other advice other than GOOD LUCK!

9 Years? Certainly not a failure, shows your dedication. a lot of people get comfortable in a safe position but you're getting off your backside and looking for something new! Got to count for something.

working for somewhere like ASDA stacking shelves for 9yr would = epic failure

Working for a large company in a highly paid managment position = not epic failure

It's all about the role!

This, but more like this:

I felt it was time for me to change, I was doing some research and happened across the position you have available. I found out information about the company and about the position. I really like *something about them* and feel that I would be right at home working for you, and that your company is the perfect place for me to further develop my career.

Now that is an answer.

I'm in a similar situation as the OP. I work for a small engineering firm, producing industrial optical instruments (mainly endoscopes). I started there 7 years ago as an apprentice. It takes me 5 minutes to cycle there and the pay is OK.

It's too comfortable, and I know I'd feel bad leaving after all they've taught me (especially knowing the time it takes to train an already skilled man to do the job, let alone a new apprentice).

I do find myself looking in the job section of the local rag quite frequently now though...

Good luck Garyj881. ;)

Thanks for the comments, all taken in.

My job is far from stacking shelves but im not on a high wage either (20K exc overtime), i have been looking on their website for a few things to mention in the interview with the aim to impress :D

Like you Danza i am very close to work (less than 10 mins) and am very comfartable too, i do get leaned on quite a bit and often do work which is not part of my job.

The new job would be 15-20 miles away, so more hours, more fuel etc... but still payes more than my current wage inc overtime, the place where i am going for an interview also offers overtime so i could be earning 10k extra per anum :)

I just hope i get the job, at a guess ther will be a quite a few attending interviews for the position.
