Got a Mirai LCD yesterday, could do with some help

Hi guys, got a new Mirai telly yesterday - the Mirai DTL-632v200. Looks like a nice TV, has hdmi, vga and two scarts for connections.

I've linked up my freeview box to it, with a scart cable, but the picture quality isn't exactly fantastic I must say. It looked much better on my CRT.

The 2nd SCART socket on the tv has two options when selecting a source. It's listed as:

SCART1
SCART2
SCART2-SV

What is scart SV? When SCART2-SV is selected the picture looks somehow more defined, but black and white. I've tried changing the output settings on my freeview box to see if I can use that mode in any way, but the picture remains the same.

A mate suggested that my SCART cable might not be RGA compatible, but if it werent, what would the picture look like once it was outputting RGA through a non-RGA cable? Would I get a picture at all?

Maybe it's just the way it's set up, but it's not exactly blowing me away at the moment. I have a 360 to be delivered soon, that might show it off more.
 
I don't expect much, just more than anything confused and wondering if it can be made better in any way! I know it's cheap, and it was really a purchase solely for 360 use, so all is not lost...
 
I think you're right Dave. I think the TV only accepts composite [edit: i meant component] through the phono-esque connections that are on the side of the telly, so I'll need to get a specific scart rgb cable and try that. I was thinking there must be a better connection available as the contrast levels were horrendous and the colours washed out.

I'll get one tomorrow and try it out. Hopefully it will improve it somewhat!

Just got an RGB scart cable and wow... what a difference! I can actually see the pixelated compression of the freeview signal now, rather than just a blurry mess! It recognises RGB scart on both scart channels, which is really rather good.

Downloading some hidef stuff through the windows showcase and that looks even better of course. It's not quite mapping 1:1, as you move the cursor around it get fuzzy in places, but it's certainly near 1:1 as it's very high res.

360 comes tomorrow and I cant wait, if it's as good as I'm hoping this telly is well worth £300!
 
I’m afraid that I don’t have Sky to try it out, but I don’t mind putting up some photos of you of xbox 360, freeview and PC (probably tomorrow, I’m out tonight).

To be honest, I am actually quite impressed and would be even if it were a more expensive set. My mates have very nice sets – one has a Pioneer 50” plasma and the other a Samsung ME86 1080p 40” so I’ve seen some good ones in action, and although it obviously isn’t as good it is still well worth the money.

Just make sure you use component cables and not composite if you go down that route!!
 
Also, I was thinking after I posted about the 1:1 that it is probably down to the cable. It’s using a long cable with a male-female convertor, and although the TV set recognises the right output (1360x768) it doesn’t quite look right across the screen. Perfectly OK for video (demo hd looks great) but when you look at the pixels they’re not quite as sharp as they could be in places.
 
Sorry guys would've put photos up but didn't have a chance.

Had the 360 connected up to the TV via component and it looks good, but took quite a bit of fiddling to get it looking right. There's noticeable ghosting on Forza2 when following a car and swaying left and right behind it, but the more use it gets the better it seems (or I'm getting used to it).

I'll try and put up photos tonight, but it does look good and for the price I would recommend it. Another thing I was mildly impressed with is the remote - it's the nastiest thing you'd expect at this price, and the number buttons even glow in the dark. ;)
