Morning all.

Right i've just purchased a new monitor, as my previous was a TV/Monitor combination and didn't suit my needs.

The monitor i've just bought is an ASUS VG278.

Specs are; 1920x1080p, LED, 3D with Nvidia 3d light boost tech, true 120hz rate, 2ms response time. Didn't really need a higher resolution, just wanted a better and smoother picture.

Gotta say it's quite good monitor, very good colours, 3D works very well.

Been playing some Battlefield 3, and just wondered if anybody knows a quick way of altering 3D depth whilst in game, so you can see adjustments live. is that even possible, or would i have to keep quiting the game, do the adjustments in the nvidia control panel and keep checking in game again?

Anybody else have this monitor too, whats your thoughts?

Cheers, Rich.

May I ask why you decided on a 120Hz 1920x1080 monitor, over a higher resolution 2560x1440 screen? Such as the Dell U2711. And how do you find that resolution on a 27" screen?
I'm sure it would perform better as a gaming display. Just wondering if the higher resolution and IPS panel of the Dell would be better if you don't play as much games.

The monitor i had was a pain in the ***, so decided i would get a new one. In that decision, i was happy with the resolution i already had at 1920x1080.

A few years ago i had a HP 30" with i think a 2560x1600 resolution, but i never really needed/wanted the extra res.

I also wanted 3D and 120hz both of which are on this monitor. I do a lot of gaming so it seemed a good choice.

In the nvidia 3d control panel, you should see an option to enable hotkeys including some 'advanced' ones.

Then in a game, I use (if using defaults, due to conflicts with quicksave I sometimes remap them) the following:

ctrl+f3 / ctrl+f4: change max depth (or in other words, how deep the 'shoe box' extends out the back of the 2d plane)

ctrl+f5 / ctrl+f6: change convergence (or in other words, how close the shoe box is pulled out of the screen towards your face) -- this option is only available when you enable the advanced settings

ctrl+f7: save/remember settings. Usually I have to press this twice for some reason, the first one usually doesn't register, but then I'll get the green 'configuration saved' along the bottom

Pressing the ctrl+ [f3 f4 f5 f6] keys as single presses is a very minor adjustment by the way, maybe not even perceivable, I tend to press and hold the key for a few seconds so the auto-repeat kicks in and makes a more pronounced change and see if that is getting better or worse, and adjust accordingly. It helps if you're doing this with a scene in game that has an object 'as close' or 'as far' as you'd like to imagine it should be (so like, a close obstacle or character in a room, so I can compare the settings of the close thing to the far thing (the back wall of the room)) at the same time, since changing one setting can influence the other.

There's also a wheel on the back of the emitter box you can use to adjust depth as you play the game.

Thanks for that info, big help.

Yeah the emitter is built in on this monitor, so no adjustment wheel.

gonna give it a try soon, see what the differences are like, mainly to see how it works and if it can be tweaked to be any better.

Thanks, again, Rich.
