Hi there, I recently purchased a Samsung SSD 830 Series 128GB. I've tried to get it to work and I simply don't know what is wrong.

First of all I plugged it into my sata ports on my mobo and booted up, then I installed windows 7 onto it without changing anything in the BIOS. Now at the time I didn't realise you had to change the settings from IDE to AHCI.

Anyway...
Once windows installed all booted up well, then a friend told me that I had to change the settings in the BIOS from IDE to AHCI.

Basically what happens is when I change it to AHCI, I try and boot up, and it gets to "Starting windows" and then just restarts my pc. I've thought "oh ok I will try and reinstall windows onto the SSD." Nope can't do that because when it's set to AHCI I can no longer boot from the CD/DVD Drive.

I have made a video to show what happens in as it might be easier to understand what is happening, but it isn't uploaded yet.

If anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong I would much appreciate the help! Thanks

Thats normal, you need to change some settings in Windows Registry (link below)

I had issues with a motherboard which would not read from the DVD drive when RAID was enabled.

Change the BIOS back to IDE then boot into windows, do the reg edit, reboot into in the BIOS and change to AHCI and windows will load.

If you have freshly installed windows, it would be preferable to wipe the drive and start again with a fresh install.
Doing the registry modification will work however sometimes you can get marginally decreased performance (or so I've read)
