when i switch off my pc and restart it again at the start i get

Floppy disk fail (40)
CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR - DEFAULTS LOADED

so this loads all the defaults eg wrong processor speed ect ive turned of everything to do with floppy disks on the BIOS. what is going on here? if someone could help that would be great!

Do you have a floppy drive in?

If so, it could be caused by the drive not being connected propery, a bad cable, or a bad floppy drive.

Try taking it out and see what happens... All this asuming that you actually have a floppy drive! :)

The error message that you are are getting normally indicates a dead or dying CMOS battery, try replacing the battery.
